Dinosaur Fossils

How Did The Dinosaurs Become Extinct

The extinction of the dinosaurs occurred during the end of the Cretaceous Period, around 65 million years ago, and caused the loss of up to 70 percent of all life on the planet. Although this event was not the only mass extinction in Earth's history or the most severe, dinosaur extinction has spawned a range of theories from the credible to the less than believable.

Ice Age

If an Ice Age occurred during the Cretaceous Period a considerable amount of the planet's water and large areas of land would have been locked in ice. Since dinosaurs were thought to be cold blooded they would probably not have been able to cope with such extreme conditions and their numbers would have eventually dwindled.

Disease

Disease is another suggestion for the extinction of the dinosaurs. It is difficult to see however how one disease could be so prevalent as to wipe out large swathes of the animal population, travel vast distances and kill off both land and marine species as well as plant life.

Climate Change

If a gradual change in the earth's climate occurred with a cooler, drier environment and an adapting plant life, possibly the dinosaurs would not have been able to adapt quickly enough to survive. The fossil records of dinosaur skulls show they could only have had small brains. This indicates dinosaurs relied on automatic body responses rather than the cognitive, decision making responses warm blooded animals are known to make. Therefore a changing environment could have been difficult for dinosaurs to adapt to and they may not have been able to compete effectively with warm blooded animals.

Supernova

A supernova is a star that explodes with enough energy to keep our sun burning for six billion years. If the Earth was hit by the resulting radiation from a nearby supernova it would have destroyed all dinosaur life. There is no evidence for a supernova causing the extinction of the dinosaurs, and it is difficult to see how anything would have outlived such an event.

The Volcano Theory

It is known that volcanic activity was widespread during the Cretaceous era, and is a credible reason why the dinosaurs became extinct. The Deccan Traps in western India and areas in the Pacific Basin are likely sites for increased volcanic activity at this time.

The consequences of large scale volcanic activity would have led to a nuclear type winter with ash and gasses added to the atmosphere, depleting sunlight and creating difficult conditions for dinosaur species. Hydrochloric acid in particular would have broken down the ozone layer allowing harmful ultraviolet rays to penetrate to the surface.

The high level of volcanic activity would also have emitted large volumes greenhouse gasses such as C02 and methane, increasing the Earth's temperature and drastically changing the planet's climate. The effects on the dinosaurs would have been catastrophic as they struggled to acclimatize to the changing conditions, and large scale extinction of dinosaur species would have been inevitable.

Cretaceous sediments support the theory of volcanic activity as they contain higher than normal concentrations of minerals and sodium, both associated with volcanoes. Cretaceous sediments can also contain volcanic rock.

The Asteroid Theory

In the late 1970's Luis and Walter Alvarez and scientists from the University of California were studying rocks of the K-T boundary (or Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary) in Gubbio, Italy. Within the clay layer of the K-T boundary they discovered concentrations of iridium thirty times higher than normal. The two natural sources of this rare element are asteroids and lava from the Earth's core, which led Luis and Walter Alvarez's team to first suggest an asteroid collided with the Earth causing dinosaur extinction. The Alvarez team estimated the asteroid would need to be ten kilometers in diameter to contain enough iridium to cause the iridium concentrations in the clay layer.

Further evidence to support an asteroid impact has emerged. The K-T boundary has two layers. The upper layer is three millimeters thick and includes soot which is believed to have come from global fires caused by the impact.

The lower level is two millimeters thick and contains ejecta from the asteroid impact site. This includes quartz crystals known as shock crystals which have been physically altered by high temperatures and intense pressure. The layer also contains tektites and micro tektites, which are often made of fused glass.  Shocked crystals and tektites are both closely associated with asteroid impact sites.

In 1990 the scientist Alan Hildebrand, after studying data gathered by geophysicists searching for oil, noticed a ring structure called Chicxulub off the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Chicxulub is a crater 180 kilometers in diameter and dates from around 65 million years ago, the same time as the extinction of the dinosaurs. It was estimated that an object ten kilometers in diameter impacting the site would have caused the crater, which fits the Alvarez team's calculations for the size of the asteroid to create the K-T boundary finds.

The Effects Of The Asteroid Impact On The Dinosaurs

It is estimated the speed of the asteroid would have been about 100,000 kilometers per hour and the initial impact would have destroyed everything within a 500 kilometer radius. The intense shock wave that followed would have caused large scale fires, whilst trillions of tons of debris, gas and water vapor would have been thrown into the atmosphere.

Earthquakes, tidal waves, volcanic eruptions as well as high winds would have followed. The soot and debris in the atmosphere would have blocked out the sun for months leading to fluctuating temperatures and severe disruption to photosynthesis. The global fires would have emitted large volumes of CO2, increasing global temperatures and causing a chain reaction that would create sulphur dioxide falling as acid rain.

Fires would have destroyed up to twenty five percent of all vegetation, and with photosynthesis unable to function effectively plant eating dinosaurs would have starved. This in turn would have led to large scale deaths of the carnivores bringing dinosaurs to extinction. Smaller animals such as scavengers and birds that could have traveled longer distances in search for food would have been more likely to have survived.

Effects On Marine Life

The levels of oxygen in the sea would have decreased as deep sea water was dragged to the surface by huge under water currents. Plankton would have died as a consequence leading to a collapse of the food chain and widespread death. Acid rain may also have increased the acidity of the sea, killing vulnerable species.

Problems With The Asteroid Theory

Whilst an asteroid impact has gained ground over most other theories, there still remain problems with the theory. Paleontologists have yet to find dinosaur fossils dating to the time of the impact, and some evidence suggests dinosaurs may have already been extinct before this event. In fact dinosaurs had been steadily declining for tens of thousands of years before the Chicxulub asteroid impacted.

There have been a number of mass extinction events in the Earth's history and a number of large asteroid impacts. However, these impacts have never been the cause of mass extinctions. It is also known that some climate sensitive species such as frogs survived the cretaceous extinction event, bringing into question the true long term effects of the asteroid on the environment.

In spite of these problems with the asteroid theory it is still the strongest explanation for the extinction of the dinosaurs. Perhaps the answer lies not with one explanation for dinosaur extinction but a combination of factors such as the asteroid impacting at a time of increased volcanic activity. In the final analysis, perhaps the extinction of the dinosaurs was a case of an accumulation of badly timed events that very few species could cope with.

About the Author

How old are dinosaur fossils?

My fellow Christians- if the earth is 6000 years old, how can we also maintain that the dinosaurs died out 65 million years ago?

The God I know doesn't deceive anyone. But I have heard a few people explain things that cast doubts on my beliefs. If God created the earth with the dinosaur fossils already embedded in the earth (one contingency), or if the fossils are much younger than they appear to be (another possibility), he may have allowed this to happen in order to test people's faith. Is that synonymous with deception?

Are there serious flaws with radiometric dating techniques?

The flaw in any sort of dating method is the assumptions. When a (secular) scientist discovers a dinosaur bone, he already has the date of the bone in his mind. When he takes the bone in to get dated, any dates that may suggest anything different than he is already convinced of is discarded due to "contamination". There are many dating methods which suggest only thousands of years, rather than millions of billions, but these methods are not mentioned by the "respectable" scientific community.

In the end, it's all about a world-view. If a person has an old-earth worldview, he will interpret all evidence to conform to his worldview. Likewise, if a person has a young-earth worldview, he will interpret all evidence to show a young earth. Evidence itself does not point one direction or the other, it is the interpretation of that evidence.

Wonderful Isle Of Wight Experiences

The island is really jumping, and don't let anyone ever say anything that contradicts this! Jools Holland was here last month, with great support from 80's star Alison Moyet. This month, Jazz on the Meadow is the top attraction on the 22nd. Supporting Courtney will be Omar Puente the lengendary Jazz Violinist, American vocalist Keri Highland, and Benedict Branca on saxophone all supported ably by the Ric Harris trio featuring Edana Minghella.

This month is also the time of the annual walking festival which is very popular with individuals looking to sample the lovely IOW landscapes. For anyone who visits the island, it is essential that you acquire a guide book showing you where to begin, take some study boots, pack of chocolate and a bottle of water and go and explore! If you are on foot use the Catamaran, otherwise take the iOW Ferries from Portsmouth or Lymington.

Not long ago I went for a visit to the IOW for our anniversary celebration. It was my first visit to the island for over 20 years since coming over as a teenager for the IOW festival. I was astounded by the scenery between the Needles park and the coastal road down to Ventnor. The sea roars in on the dark brown sands, and the cliff tops look out towards France as they have done for millions of years. Many fossil remains can be found on the beaches dating back as far as the Jurassic period, when dinosaurs lived on the Earth.

One walk that I discovered, which is also on the festival list is the strip between Ventnor and Shanklin. The pathway twists and turn along the cliff top, and then dives into wooded areas that contain some beautiful old trees. Along the way you will find some carefully crafted seats made from old tree trunks, where you can relax for a while and take in the smells from the sea.

You can choose beteen several walks this year, including the 72 mile complete walk done in 24 hours non-stop beginninng on Saturday 8th of May. A smaller area is also available to consider, which is much more of a leisurely approach.

Learn about of dinosaurs stretches our imaginations and allows us to experience a world very different from our own today. It seems that the more we learn about these creatures impressive, the more we want to learn. Learn more about these prehistoric creatures that lived on Earth for 165 million years, traveling in these dinosaurs inspired crafts, activities, games and other resources.

Dinosaur Egg
In a bowl mix some flour and water until a liquid paste. Tear a newspaper into small strips. Place an inflated balloon on top of a cup or small bowl from tipping over. Dip and enjoy the newspaper strips into the paste and remove excess paste. Place the strips on the globe. Overlapping strips until the entire globe is completely covered. Apply three or four layers and let dry. When strips are completely dry, let your child paint the egg.

Dinosaur bones
Painting Spray a series of small white dog bones. Place in a shallow rectangular baking dish and covered with clean sand or earth. Tell your child to pretend he / she is a paleontologist and he / she will be the excavation of Dinosaur Fossils. Because dinosaurs are extinct, you should examine and study these fossils to understand the history of this fascinating group of animals. Explain that the bones and the ground around the dinosaurs to tell us when the dinosaurs died and what the weather was like when they lived. Only the excavation of fossils can take years! Providing children with tools such as shovels digging toy small, brushes, sticks, etc.

Dinosaur Activity
Make two identical sets pictures of dinosaurs. (You can find large dinosaurs on our site templates or coloring books.) Put the photos facedown on a table or on the floor and mix. Ask your child to turn over an image. Then have him / her to turn over another picture to try to find his game. If the two images do not match, ask your child to turn the images over and try again. Play until all the images match.

Fossils Crafts dinosaur
Have the kids make footprints in clay coin or leaves. Explain how this is very similar to how dinosaur fossils were made. Bones made footprints in the mud. This mud hardened and became a rock or stone. When the stone or the stone breaks the seal remains in place. Explain that we can learn about dinosaurs through fossils.

Dino, Dino, who has a bone?

Field Museum Chicago Shows Everyone A Good Time

Chicago attractions: Sue the Tyrannosaurus

Chicago attractions might consist of the area of the Great Chicago Fire, which is now a fire station academy, and also the Blues district as well as places to eat serving the well-known Chicago Style pizza. Among the top 5 Chicago attractions, the must see list includes the Sky deck, Shed Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, Museum of Science and Industry, John Hancock Observatory, as well as the famous Field Museum, which is the present residence of Sue-the Tyrannosaurus Rex, like shedd aquarium.

The Field Museum can be an endless experience because of exhibits, hands-on activities, lab tours allowing interactions among scientists and guests whether they are arranging fossils or extracting DNA. Popular tours include the Ancient Egyptian tour and also the Crown Family Play Lab that has many learning activities for kids. Popular displays can include China's Lost City, Ancient Egyptian Pyramids, Jewels, mummies, Biology 7, and the Underground Adventure to list only a few, like things to do in chicago.

One of the renowned Chicago attractions is Sue, considered to be the largest, most complete T. Rex fossil with her 67 million year old bones. More than 16 million visitors have shown up ever since her discovery in 2002, making her the most famous resident at the Field Museum.

The Dinosaur Hall display enables you to see the natural environment of dinosaurs. If woolly mammoths tend to be more to your taste, most of these can be viewed as part of the Evolving Planet exhibition. The man-eating Lions in Tsalvo may be included. Through the Evolving Planet, animals as far back as the ice age can be viewed. If you are interested in the way people have survived and evolved throughout history, Ancient Americas is for you. Take the stroll through an 800 year old pueblo dwelling, and experience life as it was in the past, together with the artifacts coming from other ancient cultures.

If gold and jewelry excite you, there is an opportunity to see gemstones and gold in their rarest form in the Field Museum. Anyone may find out how gold has been found throughout history. We very often watch documentaries regarding artifacts, rare metal, gems, as well as golden statues found at freshly discovered shipwrecks or on archaeological digs, now you can view it up close.

Whether you are searching for Aztecs, China's Forbidden City, historical gold and jewelry, architectural breakthroughs, technology, the Ice Age, prehistoric dinosaurs, mammals, birds, animals living or wiped out, King Tut, Mummies, historical Pyramids, Egyptian history as well as other old cultures you will not be let down. Interactive videos, 3-D motion pictures, hands-on laboratories for children and families make the Field Museum well liked among Chicago attractions, like field museum chicago.

The Field Museum in Chicago has an online shop that has many items from books to jewelry. The Field Museum also provides freely available wheelchairs and even babies get their very own baby care stations. Even though meals are offered, the selection is small, but there are eateries along with other Chicago attractions nearby.

You can find a lot to see and do at the museum and a one-day visit is not enough for a complete experience. The good side of not seeing everything, with some displays altering occasionally, is the fact that you and your family have the opportunity to return and view the old favorites, fresh exhibits, and those you couldn't view during your last trip. One more reason the museum is one of the most famous Chicago attractions is that it provides tours and other activities for schools and other big groups, as well as family tours.

Coconut Cover Based Activated Carbon The Real Alternate For Fossil Fuel Based Heating

Fossil fuel carbon additionally creates dust nuisance in the air. The consumption of coal generally generates a several waste elements, which are bottom lung burning ash, fly ash, flue fuel desulfurization sludge, that also contain uranium, mercury, arsenic, thorium, and other heavy alloys. All the coal-fired energy plants which are without the effective take a flight ash capture are one of the largest sources of human-caused radiation exposure in the environment. Coal-fired strength plant releases a big emission which include selenium, mercury, and arsenic that are really bad for the environment and human health and fitness.

Which means coconut services and products mainly covering based triggered carbon is a real alternate for fossil fuel based warming. Activated co2, also popularly called activated coal or turned on charcoal is some sort of carbon which includes been manufactured to create it extremely porous and therefore have a very large surface designed for chemical reactions or adsorption. Interesting Video About Dinosaur Egg

Scout Niblett 'Dinosaur Egg'

Dinosaur Egg

Eggs-A Parable of following through the dinosaur goes on until the whole egg!

Ever had one of those moments in which he realized that just lost a great opportunity? Well let me tell you about my past. I went hiking with a close friend last Saturday. In fact are the horses and went for about an hour and a half to this beautiful canyon in western Utah, right on the edge of the western desert.

The road will take to the canyon width and tapas in a saddle about 6,300 feet. Since then, the world just fades into the background of the valley in the rightmost the view is amazing.

We walked from there to the anther 2,000 feet or less. When we started the descent I looked down and found a rock that seemed a dinosaur egg. The egg was put in some slate and it looked exactly like an egg that had been divided in half so you could see inside the egg. Now I am not a paleontologist, so I'm not positive it was a dinosaur egg, but I thought my wife and my children who take advantage of it. So I threw the rock in my backpack and headed home.

When I got home I showed my wife and I was so excited, but never going to believe what he said, "Where is the other half? "

I said: "What?"

"Well," my wife said: "It's like you're walking and found a ticket half a million dollars. It's good, but it would have been much better than the other half! "

I have to admit that I laughed quite difficult on the whole thing, but my wife brought a very valid point. How many times have you ever seen something and thought, "Wow that is amazing!" You grabbed him, but then forgot to do the other half. How to start your education, but never completed, from a project but get distracted halfway, writing your goals, but then do nothing with the list?

I encourage you not to stop halfway. Continue until the whole egg!

How many times bigger is the largest dinosaur of a chicken egg?

In terms of volume: The largest dinosaur eggs discovered are about a foot long and are probably of sauropods (the largest dinosaurs): Hypselosaurus, an egg 100 million, of France, liquid capacity of about 6 liters, the egg measures 1 foot long (30 cm) by 10 (25 cm) wide. A chicken egg is about 2 ounces. 6 pints = 96 ounces, which means about 48 chicken eggs. So the largest dinosaur egg is approximately 48 times larger in volume of a chicken egg.

Lightning Fast Glass

When two boys stumbled on an unusual rock near Winans Lake, Michigan, they thought they had found what appeared to be at first glance a huge dinosaur leg bone. Scientists from the Museum of Palaeontology at the University of Michigan went out to investigate, only to find that the 15-footlong white, green, and grey object was the world's largest fulgurite, Latin for "thunderbolt." It is a tube shaped glob of glass that formed when a powerful lightning bolt struck the ground. The glassy tubes of lightning-fused rock are most common on mountaintops, probably because their high altitude attracts more lightning strikes. Although fulgurites might form from any type of rock, the largest have been created from unconsolidated (loose) sand.
For centuries, scientists have known that large lightning bolts, which can attain temperatures several times those on the surface of the Sun, can melt or vaporize rocks they strike. However, until recently, the chemical and physical processes in the formation of fulgurites were largely unknown. In addition, the studies revealed the presence of two metallic minerals that had never before been found to occur in nature. The fulgurite also was found to be one of the most chemically reduced (oxygen-removed) natural substances known on Earth.
Electron microscope analysis of metallic globules embedded in the fulgurite glass showed them to be composed of a variety of iron and silicon metal compounds previously known only to exist in meteorites. Apparently, the lightning bolt somehow chemically altered the original iron oxides in the ground, to an even greater extent than those found in most meteorites. The fulgurite was also enriched in gold, which the lightning apparently scavenged from the surrounding soil and concentrated in the glass.
A glass of a different sort is in the form of tektites; the name is derived from the Greek tektos, meaning "molten". They are glassy bodies created from the melt of a large meteorite impact. Over half the rock ejected by an impact remains molten in the rising plume and falls back to Earth as tektites. Much of the high-flying material is known to be deposited halfway around the world. Massive meteorite impacts dump millions of tons of tektites over vast areas called strewn fields.
Tektites range in colour from bottle-green to yellow-brown to black; they were once prized as ornaments by the Cro-Magnon, our ancient human ancestors. Tektites are usually small, about pebble-sized, although a few have been known to be as large as cobbles. Tektites are chemically distinct from meteorites and have a composition similar to that of the volcanic glass Obsidian but contain much less gas and water. They also lack microcrystals, a characteristic uncommon in any kind of volcanic glass.
Tektites comprise abundant silica similar to the pure quartz sands used to manufacture glass. Indeed, tektites appear to be natural glasses formed by the intense heat generated by a large meteorite impact. The impact flings molten material far and wide; while airborne, the liquid drops of rock solidify into various shapes from irregular to spherical, including ellipsoidal, barrel, pear, dumbbell, and button shapes. They also have distinct surface markings that apparently formed while solidifying during their flight through the air.
Mysterious glass fragments strewn over Egypt's Western Desert appear to be melts from a huge impact about 30 million years ago. Large, fist-size, clear glass fragments found scattered across the Libyan Desert were analysed for rare trace elements, which indicated that the glasses were produced by an impact into the desert sands. The large fragments of glass showed extraordinary clarity.
The impact force also generates extremely high temperatures that fuse sediment into small glassy spherules resembling volcanic glass. Thick deposits of sand-size spherules scattered throughout the world document the great meteorite bombardments during the Earth's entire history.

Stories About Copper Pipe Leak

Copper piping is a great strategy to run the water lines within your home. But what do you do when the piping fails to keep the water on the inside? The most widespread form of leak in copper piping is often a "pin-hole" leak. This form of leak might be repaired incredibly swiftly and very easily with some new innovations on the marketplace today.

Copper plumbing will be the most common material on the marketplace today. However it just isn't corrosion-proof; some water conditions can trigger oxidation, corrosion, pitting, and eventually, pinhole leaks.

Having your water tested can support to pin down the problem, and might offer a resolution much easier then repiping your complete home.

If you discover your water acidic, or a pH level of below 7, your pinhole leaks might be trigger by acidic erosion within the pipes. Any lower can trigger harm to your pipes. If you uncover your pH levels to be too high, you are able to correct it with an acidic water filtration system. These work by filtering the water via natural minerals which will cancel out a few of the acidity of the water.

The greatest thing to come along for very a while for the do it your self marketplace will be the push sort fitting that fits any CTS (copper tube size) tubing. It does not matter if the piping is copper, cpvc, poly, pex, or whatever. Just so it can be standard CTS size around. These fittings come in quite a few forms, configurations, and name brands. A couple of probably the most frequent brands would be Sharkbite, Tektite, Cash-Acme, and Watts. I have tried them all and they do all work well, so don't be so concerned with the brands as the availability.

Other water balance issues can also be fixed by water filtration systems and adding particular minerals to your water sources. Once the cause is fixed, along with the repiping procedure has begun, there are some other issues you may do to aid stop the difficulty from reoccurring.

Now to repair a leak all you need to do is identify the source of the leak. Some occasions it might be a very slow drip which can run along the pipe for a space prior to dripping off of the pipe. Do not assume that the spot of the drip will be the spot of the leak. Hold up a piece of paper or cardboard and watch exactly where and how the water is hitting it. That will support you trace the spray back towards the hole in the pipe.

I would recommend you read additional research about Copper Pipe Leak as well as How To Fix A Copper Pipe Leak.

Ukrainian Asteroid Impact Craters could be part of explaining Dinosaur extinction around 65 millions of years ago

Ukrainian Asteroid Impact Craters could be part of explaining Dinosaur extinction around 65 millions of years ago.

Several impact craters are found in Ukraine, however their age ranges from 350 to 65 million years old. So these craters are evidence of older asteroid impacts hitting the earth long time ago. However, these craters plays an important role in understanding the frequencies of asteroid impacts to earth, as well as understanding the critical K/T boundary and associated layers in our geological history.

At least two of the identified impact craters in Ukraine seem to be linked to the age of mass extinction on earth happened around 65 million years ago. This is the age of the K/T boundary found around the world as well.

We will now discuss some of the craters, and begins with the best described of them, the Boltysh Impact Crater.

The Boltysh Crater is an impact crater in the Kirovohrad Oblast province of Ukraine.

The crater is 24 km in diameter and its age of 65.17 ± 0.64 million years, based on argon dating techniques, is within error of that of Chicxulub Crater in Mexico, and the KT boundary. The Chicxulub impact is believed to have caused the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous era, which included the extinction of the dinosaurs.

As well as Boltysh, several other impact craters around the world have estimated ages of about 65 million years, leading to the suggestion that the Earth was struck by multiple asteroid impacts at that time. The collision of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 with Jupiter in 1994 showed that such multiple impacts over a few days are possible.

Boltysh Crater is located in central Ukraine, in the basin of the Tiasmyn River, a tributary of the Dnieper River. It is 24 km in diameter, and is surrounded by an eject blanket of breccia preserved over an area of 6500 km². It is estimated that immediately after the impact, ejecta covered an area of 25,000 km² to a depth of 1 m or greater, and was some 600 m deep at the crater rim. The crater is not visible on satellite pictures as it is part of agricultural land today and covered with sediments.

The crater contains a central uplift about 6 km in diameter, rising about 550 m above the base level of the crater. This uplift currently lies beneath about 500 m of sediment deposited since the impact, and was discovered in the 1960s during oil exploration.

When first identified, the age of the crater could only be roughly constrained between the age of the impacted rocks (the target) and the age of overlying sediments. The target rocks date from the Cenomanian (98.9 to 93.5 million years ago) and Turonian (93.5 to 89 million years ago) epochs. Bore samples of sediments overlying the crater contain fossils dating from the Paleocene epoch, 65 to 54.8 million years ago. The age of the crater was thus constrained to between 54.8 and 98.9 million years.

Subsequent radiometric dating reduced the uncertainty. The concentration of uranium-238 decay products in impact glasses from the crater were used to derive an age of 65.04 ± 1.10 million years. Analysis of argon radioactive decay products yielded an age of 65.17 ± 0.64 million years. These ages are similar to that of Chicxulub Crater.

Although the ages derived for Chicxulub and Boltysh are the same to within their statistical errors, it does not necessarily follow that they formed at exactly the same time. At the estimated rate of impacts on the Earth, it would not be extremely unusual for a Boltysh-sized crater to be formed within half a million years of Chicxulub. The dating of these impact craters is not yet accurate enough to establish whether the asteroids arrived thousands of years apart, perhaps as part of a generally elevated rate of impacts at that time, or were almost simultaneous, like the impacts of the fragments of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 on Jupiter in 1994.

The discovery of the unconfirmed Silverpit crater and the early report of its age as 65 – 60 million years initially gave greater weight to the hypothesis that the Earth was struck by multiple asteroids at this time, however, the age estimate has now been broadened to 74 – 45 million years.

The controversial Shiva crater is claimed to have formed around the same time, but its status as an impact crater is disputed.

CEPSAR
One hundred and two core boxes containing over 400m of core from the Bolytsh impact crater in the Ukraine have arrived in Aberdeen as part of the NERC funded project into the environmental effects that resulted from this 65 million year old impact crater. CEPSAR scientists Dr Jon Watson, Prof. Simon Kelley and Dr Iain Gilmour joined their
University of Aberdeen colleague Dave Jolley for an exciting day doing an initial sampling of the core. Core recovery is over 95% providing the team with a near complete geological record starting from the impact rocks of the crater floor through nearly 400m of sediments from the lake that filled the crater after the impact.

The initial sampling comprised some 200 samples that will form part of the detailed geochemical and palynological examination that the team will be undertaking in the coming months. The project is examining the possibility for several impacts at the 65 million year old Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary and their separate and combined consequences for life on Earth at the time.

Another impact crater north of the Bolytsh impact crater is the Rotmistrovka crater with a diameter of approximately 2.7 kilometers and is assumed to be of 120 +/- 10 million years old. So this crater is of a much older date and is not part of the potential mass extinction multiple impact scenario around 65 million years ago which Bolytsh impact crater seems to belong to.

Seleny Gai impact crater just south of the Bolytsh crater is of 80 million +/- 20 million years old, so it could be part of the multiple impact event where Bolytsh belongs.

Ilyinets impact crater with a diameter of 8.5 kilometers and an age of 378 +/- 5 million years is located some 230 kilometers west of Bolytsch crater. This crater is not exposed to surface today.

Around 70 kilometers north of Ilyinets crater we find the Zapadnaya Impact Crater with a diameter of 3.2 kilomters. The age of this crater is estimated to 165 +/- million years. Also this crater is not exposed to the surface today.

If you have further interest in knowing more about impact craters around the world, The Earth Impact Database could be a good place for you to start learning more about where these are.

Lots have been written about the Bolytsh impact crater and here is a reference list for you to dig into if you want.

How is a falling meteorite the "time -reversal" of a fired object?

(1) An object is fired vertically upward from the Earth with an initial speed that is less than the escape speed. (2) A meteorite falls towards the Earth; at a certain height, the meteorite is at rest with respect to the Earth. Question: how is (2) the "time reversal" of (1)? Why can we use the same equation for both questions by reversing Vf to Vi? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

It isn't. The effects of atmosphere aren't symmetric. The meteorite is never at rest with respect to earth until it lands. If you could ignore the atmosphere, each is an object with a specific position and velocity, acted on by earth's gravitational field.

Meteorites - Facts Vs Myths

A meteorite is an object naturally formed and originating in outer space that outlives crashing on the surface of the Earth. Meteorites are most always different shapes and sizes, varying from big to little. There are numerous meteorites derived from petite astronomic objects called meteoroids, but the majority of the time they're produced from hits of other asteroids. When a meteoroid enters the earth's atmosphere or in the earth's gravitational orbit, ram pressure causes that object to catch fire thanks to the attractive force of the earth's gravitational pull. At that point, meteorites begin radiating light as it forms a " fireball" because of the fire on its outer surface. This type of meteor is known as falling star.

Meteorites that are noted and recovered as they impacted the Earth are called falls. All of the other meteorites are referred to as finds. As delimited in the report of Feb 2010, there are nearly 1,086 experienced falls, existing in the world's collections. In direct contrast, there could be over 38,660 documented meteorite finds.

Meteorites are ordinarily broken up into three major classes: (1) stony meteorites composed from rocky and hard materials; (2) iron meteorites composed from metallic iron and once in a while a small amount of nickel and also; (3) stony-iron meteorites comprise both metallic and rocky material. Modern categorisation schemes divide meteorites into groupings according to their structure, attributes, chemical properties, isotopic composition and mineralogy. Almost all of the meteorites are in hard meteorites class and about 6% of the falling meteorites are in the iron and stony-iron category.

Nearly all of the meteoroids break into little lumps when enter into the earth's atmosphere. It is appraised that about 5 hundred meteoroids strike the earth's surface each and every year - having different sizes that vary from the sizing of marbles to soccer balls or possibly bigger - with not many of these being documented as recovered. There have been a small number of meteorites that have been so huge and of such size, that striking the outer level of the earth, with their terminal speed, form pits on the surface of earth and can once in a while damage public property which could result in injury or loss of life.

Dr. H.H. (Harvey Harlow) Nininger started a system for the search of meteorites in the great plains of the States in the late 1920's to 1950's. He travelled in the chosen area and educated the local folks about the characteristics of the meteorites, identification and what to do if somebody found it. The technique was very successful and this enabled him to discover more than two hundred new meteorites. The majority of freshly discovered meteorites were of the stony type. In the latter 1960s, Roosevelt County , New Mexico in the Great Plains region was selected for finding new meteorites. One hundred forty (140) meteorites have been found in the region since 1967. Intriguingly, several meteorites were found in Antarctica between 1912 and 1964. This discovery has impassioned the search to find more meteorites in Antarctica. In 1969, the Tenth Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition found some meteorites in Antarctica. Another Japanese Antarctica expedition was first launched in 1974 for the search of more meteorites with great success. This team succeeded to recover about 700 meteorites while there. One or two dozen meteorites have also been found in the Nullarbor area of Western and Southern Australia before 1971.

Natural Amber Gemstones

The kind of organic gemstones is quite small, but includes some unusual varieties that are important trade in precious stones including Coral, pearl, ivory and amber.

All organic gems are quite rare, but none more than amber. Amber is the fossilized resin hardened pine tree, Pinus succinifera mainly composed about 50 million years. amber natural has been used since prehistoric times for jewelry, amulets and religious objects. The most prized pieces contain inclusions of insects or plants or pyrite.

Yellow, orange and brown are common colors for amber, blue amber is found but rarely in the Dominican Republic. The term "amber" has entered the English language as the color that is halfway between yellow and orange. The clarity of the natural amber color ranges from transparent to opaque. Most Parts have bubbles or inclusions. When Polished Amber has a resinous luster.

Unlike most gemstones, amber is amorphous and not crystalline. It is quite soft, with a score of 2 to 2.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. Although it is durable enough to have survived for millions of years, which is sensitive to acids, caustic solutions, alcohol and petrol perfume. Will burn if ignited by a party, releasing a smell of frankincense.

One of the characteristics Amber is most unique is exceptionally light. Has a density or specific gravity of only 1.05 to 1.09. Amber is so light that float on water salt. Amber low density makes it difficult to imitate with glass or plastic, which have a much higher density. By way of comparison, the total volume of a 5-carat piece Amber is 2.5 times the volume of a piece of 5 carats Zircon (one of the densest materials jewel).

Amber is found mainly in the region Baltic amber even younger are in the Dominican Republic. The largest reservoir in the western world is Kalimingrad in Russia, in a layer amber clay containing about 30 meters below the surface. There are large reserves of amber in the Baltic seabed, and amber often washes ashore after heavy storms. Other deposits are found in Sicily in Italy, Romania, Burma, China, Japan, Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Tyrannosaurus Rex Fossil

¿Lo has descubierto todavía?

Did you know evolutionists can't account for the fossils in the geologic column with the theory of evolution?

You need lots of mud to cover a Tyrannosaurus Rex and make him into a fossil. The theory of evolution is that he died and was slowly covered over a long period of time. But it doesn't work that way. He will rot or be eaten unless something, like a covering of sediment, stops that from happening. And there are thousands and thousands of fossils in some of these areas, too. These fossils weren't just chance events. Only a global world wide flood can account for the fossils and the layers of sediment.

Makes sense to me.
