I have a clear quartz crystal thats some-what rough, any ideas on smoothing, aside from a Rock Tumbler?
ASAP, a valentine for a sweetie...he wanted one and i have 3 he's never seen or touched. However my intuition says smooth the rougher one bc thats the one he'll behappiest with.

well, i went and bought him a beautiful new one, heres the thing though...i really still would luv him to take my piece, as it is so full of My great energy and luv, it doesnt need to be POLISHED OR SUPER SMOOTH, its just the one end looks like its been just jumbled around in a tool drawer er something; someone suggested use a womans nail buffer.

if you tumble it, you will ruin it. it will simply break into smaller pieces.
You won't be able to smooth a natural crystal without ruining it.
Now, if you are looking at a rock or an intergrowth of minerals, it may be possible to cut and polish one of the sample faces to bring out the details. A cut and polished gneiss with augen quartz or feldspar and good foliation can be a quite beautiful sample. I've done that before.
But natural crystals get their beauty from their natural symmetry and you cannot really polish this out without messing up the sample.
