Gemstone Identification One of the interesting and challenging questions, which is a retailer of semi-precious stone? "Stone, which is" often the answer is easy, either because the stone was ordered especially for the model or because it is an easily identifiable type of a particular mineral. For example, it is easy to identify by their color purple Amethyst, and the relative transparency. But what about the silver ring with unusual and beautiful stone in the world as part of a series of spinning? The ability to determine the correct classification of stone for facilitating the sale and improve the purchase from a customer perspective. Most people learn through experience, to identify the stones. Familiarity with the confidence of the stone-type breeds and a good precious knowledge that can be added gradually over time. Some background is useful. Gemologists use several methods to determine a type of stone. First, the background color used as a reference. Some minerals such as Azurite and Malachite are very consistent in the color of the sample to sample. Other precious stones such as quartz are difficult to classify because in all colors, depending on what trace elements are present. Purple Amethyst is a type of quartz with iron in place, while Rose Quartz gets its color from titanium. The color can be changed, as for thousands of years to improve or change the appearance of a stone. Most commercial Citrine is actually amethyst heated. In the same category classification method, we can apply the idea of "grain" or texture. The stripes are in various agates, or the nature of the quartz crystal colors gives a certain character to the whole world that is consistent in different colors. The similarities between rainbow Moonstone and labradorite are an easily identifiable example of similar feldspars have very different primary color. Gemologists see "color line" as a means to determine the species. Basically this means scratch the stone with glazed porcelain moderate force in the bottom of a plate or tile found. The color of the strip is shown on pottery, the color of the stone fewer impurities that cause spots. Sodalite, for example, is white again. This test is commonly used for the examination of raw stone and set stones damaged, do not try this with something that you plan to sell! I mention here are for reference purposes. Another method used to classify Semi-precious gems by gemologists to examine its hardness. In 1800, the Mohs hardness scale was developed for all jewelry in the world along a scale of 1:00 to 10:00 stratification. In practice, smooth stone, talc, with a drive. The hardest stone is the diamond, with a rating of ten. A stone from a stone base is harder to lower number on the scale. Quartz, with a hardness of 7, is new, with a hardness of 4 hematite. Although one should not try to test all the precious stone jewelry in finished form, it is to know a good idea to harm the straps are not on their inventory. The crystals, agates and Jaspers all stones are relatively hard (Mohs 6-7), but rhodochrosite (hardness 4, second from right in the photo), malachite (3.5 to 4) and fluorite (4), all stones and stored should be taken with care. In addition to these criteria may also gemologists density, transparency, refraction, spectral analysis, fluorescence and unlock a stone's throw of identity. For the test every day, these methods are beyond the reach of most of us rock fans. We tend to rely on our experience and "go with the stomach" when a questionable identification. We often find ourselves with a client, some white stone in sight, while often express a lapis client has the right to "know much about rock 'Labradorite only wrong or mistaken for Sodalite. Ultimately, it can be very difficult to identify a stone on the basis of the small sample in a pendant or a ring set. A particular copy may not be representative of the rest of his family may therefore are difficult to classify. What I do is look at the details of stone, including its color, grain, inclusional general qualities and character, then try to cross reference these pieces of the puzzle mentally I'm up the jewelry from past experience. Obviously, the more you know, better able to identify, classify the rocks hard to get. If I think are of Jasper or agate, which is identified with the proviso that I not 100%. I know from my own experience with the products we sell on our website can not be the most unknown either agate or jasper, but this rule applies to products from other vendors. When did our boat trailer or rings per gram, one of the best ways of a stretch. If you absolutely carnelian or tiger eye (for example), then by all means to the stone. If you order a range of stones, which almost always be an unusual and interesting stone that you have no idea how determined. Usually, we send teams to the following stones: Amethyst, rose quartz, carnelian, onyx, rainbow moonstone, labradorite, sodalite, lapis lazuli, snowflake obsidian, Amazonite, dendritic agate, malachite, Nephrite jade, chrysocolla, mother of pearl, abalone, Rhodonite, Rhodochrosite, tiger eye, fluorite, Ruby zoisite, sorted Jaspers and agates. This is a partial list. There are many other stones that we get only a few pieces here and there. If you are having trouble identifying stones, there are several good resources I can recommend. Some good websites are: semi precious stones supplier http://www.semi-precious-stone-jewelry.com About the Author China jewelry wholesale, http://www.winbowgem.com supply vast kinds of styles handmade jewelry, mainly engage in wholesale handmade jewelry such as wholesale crystal ,wholesale pearl ,wholesale gemstone,who... http://www.chinajewelrysupplier.com jewelry supplier I'm a lit grad student studying Emerson, who has the wonderful quote comparing man to Labrador spar. I'm wondering if a rock I have here on my desk could be considered spar...unfortunately, Yahoo Answers won't let me put links to pics of it. So I made my profile pic the rock - I think if you click on it, you'll get a bigger (if not great) image of the rock held at the right angle to make it colorful. The main color is grey-black and when you hold it at angles, parts of it glow like an oil slick - bright blues, oranges, and golds. I realize the pic is crappy, but can anyone tell if this might be spar? Labradorite?
Your description pretty much sums up Labradorite. Spar, in current terms, is just a form of really clear calcite. Spar in any other context is just an abbreviation for feldspar (as mentioned)Interesting Video About Labradorite
