Any opinions on artificial coral decorations for saltwater tank?
How do you feel about the replication of decorations coral that are sold for use in salt water tanks? I am setting a new 29 gallon tank FOWLR and have thought about adding some pieces of the 'false' coral. Not the neon small, but some that seem fairly accurate to reality. Has anyone else placed them in their tanks, and how you feel about how the tank ended up looking? Thanks.
I admit that for use in my quarantine tank. Some of them seem very realistic today. They have the advantage of not needing a lot of water quality and the perfect light, but still gives the tank a natural look. If you use any rock living in the tank at all, be prepared for fakes to get covered by coralline algae (pink, purple, red, green and crunchy type of algae that grows in the glass rock and marine tanks.) About the only real downside to them is that I have seen some of the better looking fakes that cost more than some corals alive. Fish do not seem to mind that are not real. I even had a couple of clowns who "adopted" a fake anemone while in the quarantine tank - Who moved to the regular tank when held in quarantine so they could keep their "home."
