ABOUT Fancy Rough Diamonds
Experts Info on Diamond Colors
Diamonds come in variety of natural colours but basically can be divided into several groups or family of colours.
These are the yellow, pink, blue, green and brown. We then talk about the hue of the diamond in terms of say pinkish brown, yellow brown or pinkish purple etc. Then there is the intensity of colour which emanates from the diamond. These 'intensities' are identified as follows:
A/ FAINT, B/ Very LIGHT, C/ LIGHT, D/ FANCY LIGHT, E/ FANCY, F/ FANCY DARK, G/ FANCY INTENSE, H/ FANCY DEEP and I/ FANCY VIVID.
This order of intensity determines the value of the diamond so a FAINT intensity is much cheaper than the FANCY LIGHT which in turn is much cheaper than a FANCY DEEP and so forth.
Also the purity of colour is important in determining value. For example the redder the pink the more expensive it becomes the red diamond being the rarest and most expensive of them all. The same goes for the blues and the greens, however this does not apply to the yellow and browns as the yellower a diamond becomes, without colour intensity, the less rare they are and cheaper they become as does diamonds of the brown family.
Certain 'labels' are given to coloured diamonds ie, 'canary', 'champagne' or 'cognac' to mention the most common.
The clarity of a fancy coloured diamond is of lesser importance as long as the imperfection remains 'eye clean' and does not alter the beauty of the colour or hinder the light refractive qualities of the diamond itself. Most 'fancy coloured' diamonds are found within the VS to I1 clarity range but many are also within the IF to VVS range.
A diamond cutter confronted with a fancy coloured rough diamond will look to cut the diamond in order to retain the largest looking diamond taking less into consideration the imperfections found within it. This is not the same motivation as with white diamonds where the clarity will play a far more important role.
The most popular shapes are the round, princess, radiant and oval type of cuts with cushion and Asscher cuts following.
The weight of a fancy coloured diamond also adds to its value so a 1ct weight size, on a per carat basis, will cost far more than a 0.30ct weight size.

It is very difficult to establish the value of a fancy coloured diamond and it is most important that you purchase them, especially as there are a multitude of much cheaper 'enhanced' coloured diamonds on the market, from a reputed diamond supplier. A certificate from either of the main laboratories , HRD, EGL, IGI and GIA are helpful but more importance should be put on the professional integrity of the supplier for obvious reasons.Should you require more information on this subject a good source of information can be found atwww.JewelleryWebShop.co.uk where a very experienced expert can be found always happy to answer any further questions you may have.

The first improvements on the design of nature involved polishing of the faces of the crystal, which was called the "Point Cut. "As further refinement progressed, half of the crystal is cut, the creation of" cutting table. "At the time, Diamonds have been valued primarily for their brightness and hardness. Table Cut Diamonds appeared black to the eye. The Modern brilliant cut is the culmination of several hundreds of years of experimentation and development. Cutting a Raw Diamond into a faceted stone and polished gem quality is a multistep process. Each step is crucial for the final result. The steps are:
Marking
Cleavage
Sawing
Bruting (girdling)
Faceting
Marking: A rough stone is marked prior to cleaving or sawing to determine the grain or "cleavage", eliminate waste, and around inclusions or imperfections. The natural shape of the rough stone will also be an important factor in deciding how to cut stone. An octahedron can be divided into one or two brilliant round, but a square cut princess will result in less waste due to the square shape of the stone. asmacles asymmetric crystals are mainly used for fancy cuts. cubic forms are ideal for a square Princess or Radiant cut. computerizedhelium high-tech analizers oxygen and are now used to evaluate a stone before cutting:. Cleaving Cleaving refers to the division of a stone along its grain by striking it. A rough stone is cleaved if there are visible defects and / or inclusions which would prevent it from being done in a single stone. Cleavage is the tendency of crystalline materials to split along planes accurate. Thanks to its atomic structure, diamond can be cleaved in four directions parallel to each of the four octahedron crystal faces. Cleavage is a critical step as an error by the "sunset" could break the stone. Sawing: A stone saw is a thin disk of phosphor bronze. As the blade rotates, it continues to pick up or "recharge" itself with diamond dust, which is cutting agent. It may take several hours to the saw blade to cut through a rough diamond 1k. Bruting The crude is placed in a chuck on a lathe. Although the rough stone rotates on a tour of the diamond second diamond mounted on adoption are pressed against him, rounding the rough diamond into a conical shape. This step is also called the district or bruting.
Faceting: Facet for a "brilliant", a "blocker" or "lapper" will reduce the first 18 principal components, then a "Brightener" will carve and polish the remaining 40 facets. Cutting () and polishing of each facet is achieved by attaching the stone to a dop stick and pressing it against a hard cast renewable Scaife, or on the knees on a Facetron that was loaded diamond dust. During this faceting stage the angles of each facet must be cut to an exacting standard to produce a maximum brightness and maintain symmetry.

A week ago, I bought these rough stone of a local trader. My friend cut faceting ovals in a European style and now I have this beautiful stone, but no name.
Thanks for sending us your photos of the faceting rough. Its difficult to tell from the photos of the rough stones before they have been faceted. Sorry but we can't do gem identification or valuations on line.
Mines: Over 250 tons of ore must be extracted to give carats of rough diamonds. On the other hand, only about 20 percent of all rough diamonds are suitable for use as gems. Since diamond is the material most drive known to man, the rest of the diamonds are used for industrial purposes, such as cutting, drilling and grinding. Diamonds are mined in the area deepest Magma kimberlite pipes up to 75 miles deep called "blue rock" or "blue" and the area minus deep 50 to 60 feet below the earth surface called "yellow." Currently, over 90 percent of world supply of diamonds operates in South Africa. However, diamonds are also mined in Australia, South America, Russia and Canada.
Marking, which is the first step in the process of making diamonds is done after every rough diamond is analyzed to decide how it should be cut to give the greatest value. Here, the shape of rough diamond, and the number and location of impurities and imperfections are expected. Taking these factors into account, the planner decides how the diamond must be cut and "brands" to point where the stone should be cleaved or sawn.
Cleavage: Following a diamond is marked by particular stone, it is sent to a chopper or a sawyer. When the stone is very large and valuable, cleavage is a critical process, because a mistake by the planner or the cleaver can shatter the diamond. The job is cleaver to cut the diamond into two pieces, to seek the best angles and implement what will be the final cut.
Cutting: girdling or borough are terms that come by participating in cutting a round stone. Each diamond is placed in a tower with a second diamond held at his side, too slowly round-shaped cone. After the stone is the blocker, which puts the first 18 main facets of a diamond brilliant cut loose, after which he goes Brightener, which must place to stay the 40 facets. The above process, reduce by 58 facets apply to round brilliant Diamonds Loose. For fancy shaped diamonds set on the process rather varies.
Polishing: The final step in the loose diamond finishing process is polishing. The diamond alone is imposed on a rotating wheel that looks like a record turntable that is covered with diamond dust. Diamond dust is the gross imperfections polishes far smaller
